Account and data deletion
Delete your Smart Spend account and data
If you signed in to Smart Spend, you can delete your account and the data stored with it in the cloud yourself, in the app, or ask us to do it by email.
Delete your account in the app
You need to be signed in. Deletion happens straight away and cannot be undone.
- Open Smart Spend and, on the Today screen, tap the Settings (gear) icon at the top.
- Scroll down and tap Delete Account. It is shown only while you are signed in.
- Read the warning and tap Delete Account to confirm.
If you own a shared household, the app first asks you to make another member the owner or to archive the household, both in that household’s settings. If it asks you to sign in again, sign out, sign back in and repeat the steps.
Ask us by email
If you cannot open the app or sign in, or would rather we did it for you, email us. Send it from the email address you use with the app if you can; if not, we may ask you to confirm the request from that address before we delete anything.
- Subject
- Delete my Smart Spend account
- Please include
- The email address you signed in to Smart Spend with.
- Whether you use Smart Spend on Android or iPhone.
- Whether you also want a household you own or archived erased completely.
What is deleted
- Your Smart Spend account: the sign-in record with your name, email address and account ID.
- The cloud copies of your personal expenses, categories, invoices and budgets.
- Your household memberships, and this phone’s notification token for household alerts.
- The household data that was copied to this phone.
What is not deleted, and for how long
- Records saved on the phone itself stay on that phone until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
- In a household someone else owns, the entries and invitations you added and its activity history stay with that household, because its members share them; your name stays in its member list, marked as removed. Email us if you want them removed.
- A household you owned and archived stays archived in the cloud. Email us to have it erased completely.
- Usage statistics are not linked to your account. Their detailed records are deleted after 14 days, as our privacy policy explains.
- Google, which runs the cloud service (Firebase) for us, may keep deleted data in its own backup systems for a limited time before it is overwritten, under Google’s own policy.
- Your household notification settings, and the notification tokens of any other phones you signed in on, can stay in the cloud under your former account ID. Email us and we will remove them.
How long it takes
- In the app: at once.
- By email: we reply within one business day and complete the deletion within 30 days, then tell you it is done.
